Haymarket Depot from Canning House 1976. Here's a very different view of Haymarket station and the depot which I guarantee you will not have seen before. Not taken from a drone (we didn't have those in the 70s) or a low flying plane but a telephoto shot from the roof of my father's office building in Canning Street a short walk from Haymarket Station. It's badly scratched and there's a lot of damage to the emulsion but hey ……… Here we see two Class 101 Met Cam units passing, one from Stirling and another heading to Fife. Alistair Ness.
A view of Haymarket depot taken by my late father Sandy from his office building near Haymarket Station in July 1976. Alistair Ness.
Haymarket Depot July 1976. Here's a very different view of Haymarket depot which I guarantee you will not have seen before, a telephoto shot from the roof of my father's office building over a mile away in Canning Street a short walk from Haymarket Station. Many class 101 Met Cams and class 105 Cravens DMUs can be seen as well as four class 25, two class 27s, two class 47s and a single class 40. The shot shows many long gone features such as the coal yard and substantial brick built office building (where the tram line to the Airport now runs) and the bends in the track (long since straightened out) where the former bridge carrying the Caledonian line to Princes Street station went over the top. The Jenners Depository stands out in the background and being a Listed structure of architectural or historic interest is still there, now in use as a self-store facility. Alistair Ness.

A 105/101/105 DMU set in Haymarket depot on 28 October 1979. Closest is SC51480, a vehicle that spent its whole career in Scotland allocated to Kittybrewster, Leith Central, Hamilton and Haymarket. Within a few months it would become one of the very few 105s to carry blue and grey livery, and would be withdrawn in November 1981. The other two vehicles are presumably 59047 and 51474. Brian Daniels.
